Alameda Council B.S.A - Alameda, CA

Committee Descriptions

Camp Promotions Committee

Under the guidance of the Vice Chief, this committee deals with the most important goal of the order, getting scouts to go camping and helping the troops in their camping efforts. The committee consists of two branches, one dealing with summer camp promotion, and one dealing with helping individual troops during the year.

The Kaweah Lodge Where to Go Camping Booklet is available to all units in the council. This book, updated each year, recommends camp sites in Northern California that would be enjoyed by a scout troop. As well as camp sites, the book gives ideas for what to do on overnights, and lists enjoyable places to go biking, rafting, or hiking.

Publications Committee

Under the guidance of the lodge secretary, this committee publishes the Kaweah Journal, which is sent  at least four time a year, as well as the Lodge Planbook, which is distributed to lodge members in the fall at our September Lodge meeting.

Committee members compose, layout, produce and distribute all publications using the latest desktop publishing technology. One member must also attend each Section Meeting.

WEBELOS Woods Committee

This event, now in its seventeenth year, is designed to give both first and second year WEBELOS a taste of what Boy Scouts is all about. For many, this is their first overnight event.

.

This year's WEBELOS Woods event will take place on Saturday Oct 7, 2006. The location is yet to be set, and much planning needs to be done to make this year's event as successful as past trips.

Arrowmen working in this committee help plan and run this highly worth while event. Scouts work directly with the WEBELOS both during the event itself, and beforehand recruiting.

Kaweah Raiders

An OA lodge should be willing and capable of giving as much back to scouting as scouting has given to the members of that lodge. Through Raiding parties Kaweah is able to do just that. Kaweah Raiders are arrowmen sent to troop, pack or den meetings to assist in the teaching of a skill or to lead a game or event.  In the three years of its existence this program has become one of the most original and successful in the section.

Every lodge member has some kind of special skill or knowledge that could be beneficial to a local unit.

Ceremonies Team

Ceremonies play an important part in the Order. An impressive ceremony performed by a well rehearsed team can leave a profound effect upon recently elected arrowmen.

Dance Team

One way in which the Order honors its Native American background is through the lodge dance teams. The lodge dance team is called upon to perform at summer camp, at the annual section conclave, and at occasional lodge, troop, and cub meetings. Dancers also get to know dancers from other lodges, both at competitions and at lodge held pow-wows.

Members of the dance team can be of any age and no experience is necessary. Dancers learn basic steps to several dances, costuming, and can eventually progress to perform at National Events, as did our nationally honored teams of the early 80s.

Vigil Committee

This committee is responsible for the election and appointment of new vigils, as well as all connected ceremonies. The lodge chief will appoint a Vigil as the chairman of the Vigil Committee. There will be a minimum of three members on the Vigil Committee, all of whom must be must be Vigil members.

Brotherhood Committee

This committee shall consist of at least one lodge member under 21. He shall keep a file of when each lodge member became Ordeal and the other two honors respectively. He shall advise the chief when a member becomes eligible for Brotherhood. He shall keep on file the essays of all Brotherhood candidates and members (see requirements for Brotherhood). The testing of Brotherhood candidates shall be directed through the Brotherhood Chairman.

Conclave Committee

This committee shall be in charge of overseeing the lodge's participation in this annual event, from publicity to competing for the MIL award. One lodge member from this committee will attend section meetings to represent the lodge in the training segment of these meetings, and will oversee the lodge's competition and seminar.

Lodge Fellowship

An arrowman will coordinate this event, which will be held prior to the Summer Ordeal.
